Imbert Matthee
Executive Director
Raised in the Netherlands and educated in the United States and England, Imbert Matthee worked for most of his 15-year career as an international journalist before making the switch to humanitarian work in Southeast Asia.
Matthee was Pacific Rim Correspondent and Business Reporter for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer for six years, covering overseas assignments in Asia, Europe and Latin America, and making frequent contributions to the New York Times News Service. He also worked as a reporter for ABC News, the Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, Everett Herald and Bellingham Herald.
Matthee received an M.Sc. in International Relations from the London School of
Economics in 1987 and a B.A. in Journalism from Western Washington University
in Bellingham, Wash., in 1985. Matthee, 42, lives on Bainbridge Island with
his wife, Karen, and two sons, Rainier, 13, and Niko, 3.
